Working Through A Play Date

Published by rappinhood under Work At Home Edit This

As a WAHM, I’m always trying to balance my work life with my parenting responsibilities. Today was one of those days where I tried to do it all. I spent the morning chained to my desk trying to meet a couple of urgent deadlines. At the end of it, I wasn’t ahead, but I wasn’t behind either. I’d arranged to meet a girlfriend to check out a venue for her forthcoming birthday celebrations - it’s a big one, but she’s not saying which. Then it was off to the school to pick up my daughter and her play date du jour. It’s amazing how much noise five year olds can make, especially when they are entertaining themselves. I still had to find time to check and respond to emails, as I had a couple of urgent matters on the go. Now the playmate has gone home, my daughter’s in bed, and I’m trying to decide whether I feel social enough to watch a movie with my DH. Ever had a day like that?

Working For Two

Published by rappinhood under Pregnancy Edit This

It’s official. Pregnancy does not have to change your life. According to two leading surgeons, with the right attitude and the right care, you can keep working till the day you deliver (who would want to, ladies?). There’s no denying that it’s hard work, but if you put your management skills to use, a little forward planning, will keep you happily behind your desk till the last minute.

Of course, you’ve still got to look after yourself. That means attending regular checkups and scheduling some sessions with your dentist. It also means cutting down on caffeine, eating the right foods and getting plenty of rest when you’re not at work. Sadly, you have no excuse for blowing off your exercise routine. If your pregnancy is normal, you can still go to the gym right up to the end.

There’s one more thing you will need to get ready – your hospital bag. The chances are that you will be at work when you notice the first signs of labor. Have a game plan so you’re ready to go when it’s time to deliver.

Hello From WritingWahm

Published by rappinhood under Parenting Edit This

Hi everyone

I’m a freelance writer and mother of a five year old, who keeps me so busy that sometimes I feel like a mother of five. Parenthood has been a wild ride so far, and I’ll be sharing some of the stories of past and present experiences on this blog.

Many of my friends are work at home moms and dads as well, and although I’ve never met many of them offline, we’ve exchanged some hairy tales and kept each other going. Some work at home jobs require a lot of concentration, and meeting deadlines while keeping toddlers happy can be a real challenge. However, there are also many moments of delight, such as when your child says ‘I love you’ and really means it. I’ll be sharing some of those moments, too.
